Athens, Aegean and Turkish Coast Conference@Sea
Thursday 20 June - Monday 1 July 2024
The Athens, Aegean and Turkish Coast Conference@Sea is an incredible journey worthy of an ancient epic. With stops in Athens, Crete, Rhodes, Bodrum, Santorini and more, this cruise conference provides a fascinating historical context to engaging academic content for legal, medical and dental professionals.
From the comfort of the luxury Silverseas Silver Moon ship, this 11-day conference explores the ancient cultures that were responsible for the earliest innovations in law and medicine in Europe. At each of the stops there is a plethora of activities that allow for further study of these historical places, whilst the conference on board the ship provides for a more contemporary analysis of medical and legal issues - and of course there will be plenty of opportunities for professional networking.
This epic journey starts from one of the most important cities in the history of ancient Europe: Athens. Home to important archaeological sites (notably the Parthenon which dates back to the 5th century BC), the Greek capital nowadays is a vibrant blend of the old and the new. From there we sail to Monemvasia, one of the oldest continually-inhabited fortified towns in Europe. This castle town on the east coast of the Peloponnese has a dramatic single point of entrance, and there will be guided visits of Monemvasia and surrounding archeological sites.
The next day our ship continues on to another of Greece’s mythical places - Crete. With a literate civilisation that dates back to the Bronze Age, and periods of rule under the Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Emirate of Crete, Republic of Venice and the Ottoman Empire, this is a place of rich history. The stunning architecture, lively restaurants and waterfront location of Aghios Nikolaos provide a welcome start to the journey. Amongst the activities on Crete are a hike on the island, a tour of an olive oil estate, and visits to notable sites including ancient monasteries.
The next stop is the largest eastern-most Greek island, Rhodes. There is plenty to see in the UNESCO World Heritage site listed Old Town, and there are engaging activities here ranging from walking tours to visits of the acropolis or a relaxing day at one of the island’s most beautiful beaches.
From Rhodes our ship continues to the idyllic island of Patmos in the Dodecanese, followed by the Turkish coastal city of Bodrum. Home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Mausoleum, this historical city showcases Turkey’s coastal life at its best. Explore the Bodrum Castle, the marina and the city’s fine dining restaurants, or embark on a half-day cruise on an authentic ‘Gulet’ boat.
After Bodrum, we sail to another spectacular destination on Turkey’s west coast, where we will be able to visit the incredible archeological Ephesus. This remarkably well-preserved city was once home to 150,000 people, and is a truly important site for archeologists and classicists.
We then sail back to the island of Crete, this time to Souda Bay. This harbour is known for its stunning beaches and natural beauty, as well as a rich history that includes both archeological sites and strategic military bases from the Second World War.
The final two stops are both not to be missed. Santorini in the Cycladic Islands is deservedly famous for its romantic beauty and incredible sunsets. Syros, on the other hand, is a lesser known but equally picturesque destination with crisp white beaches.
A complete itinerary for the cruise is available from CPE Travel.

The reason for this is that we need to command the common areas of the ship in order to conduct our conferences and we can only do so if every delegate and accompanying person is part of our group booking. Unfortunately any person booking directly with the cruise company or other travel agent will not be able to register or attend the conference.
Speaker Registration rate is not applicable for Conferences@Sea and River Conferences.
