The Algonquin is a historic hotel named after the native american tribe that once lived in the area. First opened in 1902 with plans to be a residential building, the owner found that short term guests were more profitable. Situated in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, the hotel places guests in the Theatre District, near Times Square, Rockefeller Center and more.

The hotel had its first of many dates with destiny in 1919 when a crowd of writers, critics and playwrights all attended a party in the Pergola Room. They then met for breakfast daily until they were moved into the main dining room, where the world was introduced to the Vicious Circle. These luminares and tastemakers would become the famous Algonquin Round Table where the New Yorker Magazine was created.

The Algonquin is home of the famous Blue Bar, that opened after the prohibition was lifted, and the famous Oak Room (previously named the Pergola Room) which re-opened after WWII as a public cabaret venue that eventually launched the careers of Harry Connick Jr., Diana Kroll, Michael Feinstein, Peter Cincotti and Andrea Marcovicci.

In 2012 the hotel closed for nine months for a complete top to bottom $5 million renovation and reopened with a new look designed by the famed Interior Designer, Alexandra Champalimaud.
