Positano, Amalfi Coast
Europe Asia Conference
3 - 10 July 2020
The UNESCO heritage site of the Amalfi Coast in Italy is one of the most picturesque regions of the world. The Harvard society describes this region as“The beauty of the Amalfi Coast can not be described in words. Steep cliffs plunge down into the bright blue sea and little towns wedge into narrow ravines. Picturesque villages and stunning panoramas provide an aesthetic pulse, the delicious food and throbbing nightlife provide for the region’s corporeal beat”.
Positano is a cross roads of culture, where you will see the architecture of the Saracens and the Greeks. The area forms the backdrop for part of Homer’s tales in the Odyssey (Ulysses tying himself to the mast of the boat to avoid the seductive pull of the female ‘Sirens’ who lured sailors onto the rocky reefs with their sweet refrains).
This small town on the Amalfi Coast started life as a fishing village, and was an important stopover point for the ancient Greeks as they travelled to the west. The town is best viewed from the sea so that you can see the natural pyramid shape of the rock, covered by colourful buildings.
For those with reasonable fitness we will undertake the incredibly spectacular ‘Walk of the Gods’, a ramble along the ridges overlooking the Amalfi.
This conference has now become a regular part of the international legal conference calendar, with delegates and speakers having attended from 4 continents. Each year the academic and professional program is of a very high standard - 2020 will be no exception. Ancient Romans made a huge impact in the early approaches to medicine and health, and The Amalfi Coast is famous for the Schola Medica Salernitana in Salerno, a Medieval medical school with teachings of medicine, philosophy, theology and law. The current Italian Civil Code being based on updated Roman and Napoleonic civil code.
We look forward to you joining us on what will be our 8th Positano conference.
